Hyperpigmentation & Acne Scars

Not only is it frustrating to have active acne in the form of spots, redness and pustules, but these lesions can leave their mark in the form of scars and hyperpigmentation.

These scars can be treated but will require collagen-inducing treatments. The younger the client (teens to early 20s) the more likely treatments can give a meaningful recovery of scars). For more mature skin (25+), more treatments might be needed to achieve a good change, but it is unlikely scarring can be totally reversed.  

Not all skin types will scar with textural changes but treating acne is important to prevent unnecessary scarring.

How to Get Rid of Acne Scars and Hyperpigmentation

There are different types of skin damage from acne. They each require a different approach to get smooth, clear skin. 

Acne Hyperpigmentation

This is NOT “scarring,” it is hyperpigmentation or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Hyperpigmentation heals on its own over time but can heal faster with the proper skin care products, acne facials, and patience.

Sun Damage Pigmentation

Sun exposure can cause both hyperpigmentation (dark spots) and hypopigmentation (light spots). Proper skin care products, facials and collagen inductive therapies are required to change this kind of pigmentation.

Acne Scarring

Acne scars are marks on the skin that are pitted or depressed. They are texture changes in the skin. They require proper skincare products, acne facials, time, and collagen-inductive therapies.

We provide in-office collagen therapies once a client’s skin is well managed with the ability to keep skin clear. We also refer our clients to other providers for more advanced scar therapies.
