Acne Lab’s Proven 3-Step Clear Skin Strategy
How to Prevent and Clear Up Acne
At The Acne Lab, we are acne experts. And we’ve developed a prescription-free, acne skincare strategy that has helped thousands of teens and adults get healthy, clear skin.
What’s our secret? Getting clear skin isn’t just about products. It’s also about the process.

Clear Skin Obstacles: Why You Need a Skincare Strategy
To understand the secret to getting clear skin, you first have to understand the obstacles you face.
- Acne is genetic and can’t be cured. Acne is a genetic skin disorder. If you are born with it, then you will have this genetic predisposition towards acne your entire life. While drugs like Acutane are advertised as a solution for acne, it is only 40% effective as a lasting solution. That means 60% of clients who take Acutane will struggle with acne after taking that prescription.
- Acne is a chronic skin condition. Acne often needs to be managed for years at a time and for some of us, it is simply the skin we’ve been given and will need to be managed throughout our lives.
- Acne is adaptable. Even the most successful skincare routine will likely lose its effectiveness over time if it doesn’t manage to prevent your skin’s adaptation to the products.
These obstacles are why it’s so hard for acne-prone teens and adults to get and maintain clear skin. If you feel like you’ve tried everything without lasting results or your acne keeps coming back, it’s because you need a real skincare strategy.
Many people who struggle with acne are using products that are harsh, dry up their skin, or even have ingredients that clog their pores. We know it's commonly thought that you need to dry out acne. This is a myth.
Instead, the key to clearing up acne is making sure your skin is healthy and hydrated first. This essential first step removes obstacles to clear skin by following our Clear Skin Rules.
At The Acne Lab, you'll begin with our Skincare 101 collection. These products are designed to:
- Heal and hydrate your skin
- Remove pore-clogging ingredients from your routine
- Balance your skin's natural moisture barrier
- Reduce inflammation that contributes to acne
- Prepare your skin for active acne-fighting ingredients in Step 2
Because skin adapts to skincare over time, you have to be proactive about adjusting your products. This is especially important while you are actively working to clear your skin.
Think of this like an exercise program. Just like you have to adjust your workouts to get and stay fit, we adjust your skincare to help your skin get and stay "fit."
Over time, we progressively introduce new "exercises" in the form of active skincare products containing ingredients that can prevent and control acne. These products can potentially be drying, so we help your skin remain healthy and hydrated. This helps guide your skin to behave differently than it wants to.
Our job is to make sure your skin does not adapt to the skincare routine and stops responding. If you're in one of our acne programs, we'll do frequent check-ins and communicate with you to make sure you are on track to getting clear "fit" skin!
After you get clear skin, you will still need to commit to taking care of your skin. If you stop washing your face or start using pore-clogging makeup, for example, your acne could return (most likely in 3-4 months as it takes time for hair follicles to clog and lead to acne). But we will provide the tools and knowledge so you can maintain your clear skin for life.
You also may occasionally need to update your skincare if your skin adapts. We are here to support you, and we offer skincare tune-ups when you need them.
Once you become a Clear Skin Graduate, you may occasionally need to update your skincare.
Our acne experts are here to help you! We can help adjust your skincare routine via Zoom or at an in-person facial at our Lafayette, CO, location.
