The Acne Lab Blood Test

Acne can be an external sign of an internal problem.

Most blood tests you may get at your annual doctor visits are a limited view of your health and don't give you the full picture.

The Acne Lab collaborated with experienced functional medicine practitioners to create a comprehensive Acne Lab Blood Test as well as a Acne Food Sensitivity + Gut Test to help identify internal factors that could be influencing your acne.

Get to the Root Cause of Your Acne

To get to the root cause of acne using a functional medicine lens, you need a lab panel that comprehensively covers some of the most common influencers of acne:

  • Hormones (androgens, estrogens, insulin)
  • Inflammation and immune function
  • Nutrient status
  • Gut health and detox pathways
  • Metabolic health

This test is designed for anyone age 16 and above who are dealing with stubborn acne.

The Acne Lab Test offers a comprehensive look at the underlying factors that can drive acne—including hormone imbalances, inflammation, immune dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, digestive or detox issues, and metabolic disruptions.

While genetics is the main cause of acne, we also know through experience that it can be a sign of more concerning underlying health imbalances that are best addressed early on to prevent chronic disease.

Discover the internal influences of your acne and get clear.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from my annual blood tests at my doctor's office?

Basic annual blood work usually includes only a metabolic panel, CBC, and lipid panel—offering just a snapshot of your overall health. These tests can flag major issues like anemia, liver or kidney problems, and cholesterol levels, but they miss the deeper story.

They don’t assess hormone balance, nutrient status, inflammation, gut health, or detox function—all of which play a major role in skin health, metabolism, and how you actually feel.

Our Acne test is one of the most comprehensive blood tests on the market that covers the most common causes of acne.

Where do I get my bloodwork done?

You will be sent an email from Rupa with instructions on how to book an appointment at your local Quest Diagnostics. We recommend checking to see if you have a Quest within driving distance before buying the blood test.

Will this test for hormonal acne?

Our Acne Blood Test looks for hormone imbalances in both men and women. If you suspect you have hormonal acne because you have acne on your jawline/chin, cystic acne, hormonal breakouts, or a suspicion of PCOS, this test will help identify if hormones are a trigger for your acne.

How does the blood test help me get clear skin?

Our test looks for any underlying issues that may be triggering your acne: hormones, nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, immune dysfunction, metabolic disorders, and stress. If you test outside normal levels on any of these markers, it will be flagged for you.

We recommend working with a functional medicine practitioners at our partner, Elovated Medicine, or another functional medicine provider.

Does this test for acne-related gut or digestive issues?

The blood test does provide some insight into gut issues. However, if you have digestive issues such as bloating, gas, reflux, constipation, IBS, or stomach pain, you could benefit from our Food Sensitivity + Gut Test for a more comprehensive look into your gut health.
