Skincare Routine after a DMK Enzyme Facial or Microneedling
Clear skin is a big milestone. Once your skin has stayed clear and stable for at least two months, you may be ready for the next phase: repairing what breakouts left behind.
If you live near The Acne Lab's office in Lafayette, CO, you can take advantage of our two skin repair services: DMK Enzyme facials or microneedling.
You Skin Needs Special Care after Microneedling or a DMK Facial
Both DMK Enzyme facials and microneedling are great for healing acne scarring by encouraging and speeding up the skin's natural healing process.
After either of these services, you'll want to adjust your skincare routine for the best results. The goal is to keep your skin calm, hydrated, and protected.
Your Skincare Routine Rebuild after a Repair Session
Below is the exact routine to follow after your DMK Enzyme facial or microneedling appointment. Follow it as written, and resist the urge to add anything extra.
Here is the exact schedule to follow after your appointment.
WEEK 1 Skincare Routine
ONLY use Skincare 101 and don't use any products with actives in it.
Skincare 101: Only use Skincare 101 and not any of your products with active ingredients (antibacterials, exfoliators, masks, retinols, etc.)
Vaseline: If dry, you can use a thin layer of pure petroleum jelly (aka Vaseline) on top of moisturizer in the mornings and at night to enhance maximum moisture retention.
Week 2 Skincare Routine
50% of your main exfoliator schedule and 50% of your antibacterial schedule.
Exfoliator: (Salicylic, Glycolic, or Mandelic) If you normally use a serum 2x/day, then this week you’ll be using it 1x/day. If you normally use a serum 1x/day, then this week you’ll be using it every OTHER day.
Antibacterial: (Acne Med or Oxygen Emulsion) These are usually applied every night so this week is every OTHER night
Week 3 Skincare Routine
100% of your main exfoliator schedule and 100% of your antibacterial schedule.
Exfoliator: If you normally use the exfoliator 2x/day, then this week you’ll be using it 2x/day. If you normally use it 1x/day, then this week you’ll be using it 1x/day.
Antibacterials: These are usually applied every night, so this week is every night
Weeks 4+ Skincare Routine
Add the Clay Mask and Congestion Exfoliator (if part of your routine). This week your skincare routine should be back to what it was before your skin repair treatment.
Clay Mask: Resume using it 1x/week as a DRY mask (apply, let dry for 5–10 minutes, rinse, complete the routine)
CongestionsExfoliator (Vitamin A/Retinals/Retinols): If using a congestion exfoliator, these can be added back into the nighttime routine as recommended
Don’t Rush Your Skincare Schedule
It can be tempting to skip ahead, especially if your skin feels fine after a few days. Stick with the schedule anyway.
Each week prepares your skin for the next one, and bringing your serums and acne products back gradually protects both your repair results and the clear skin you worked hard for.
